ASIAN SHORT CLAW

OTTER

Aonyx cinereus

The Asian short claw otter has small claws that don’t extend beyond their pads.

They are very clever and lure down passing birds to catch and eat.

These otters are fresh water otters living in the wetlands of Asia. Can you name some of the countries in Asia?

They are carnivorous and tend to eat small frogs, snails, berries, fresh water fish and mussels.

These otters prefer to use chopsticks to eat their food.

With very sharp teeth, these otters can easily bite through bone. Keep your fingers well away from them!

Unlike other otters, asian short claws have only partly webbed feet which means they are incredibly dexterous. (This means they have very flexible and grippy paws - almost like hands).
