Ah, the elusive Scottish Wildcat - a feline that's as mysterious as it is majestic. This purrfect predator is a real national treasure, with its distinctive grey-brown fur, bushy tail with 3-5 black rings and tip, and cute-as-a-button ears.
Did you know that the Scottish Wildcat is one of the rarest animals in the world? There are fewer than 350 wild cats left in the wild.
Unfortunately, the Scottish Wildcat is facing a whole array of threats that could see it vanish from our shores forever. Habitat loss, hunting, and disease are just a few of the factors that have contributed to its decline.
Also known as the ‘Highland Tiger’, these kitties might look like your average domestic moggy, but they're actually a unique sub-species that's been evolving separately since the last ice age. Pretty impressive, huh?
They eat frogs, small rabbits, squirrels and mice.
Don't let its adorable looks fool you - this is one feisty feline that's not to be messed with.

Our Wildcat Project
At Auchingarrich we are incredibly fortunate to have plenty of land to develop for the benefit of our animals.
We have selected a unique and picturesque area of land which we hope to develop into one of the UK’s largest natural Wildcat Habitats.
It has a natural stream running through with a rocky crag and small woodland. It is the exact location wildcats would settle in the wild and is approx 2acres in size.
We are part of the Wildcat Conservation and Breeding Programme, currently holding two females and one male.
Our plan is to develop the natural enclosure and release the two females. We would also like to create serval viewing hides and an educational cabin to promote the conservation of The Scottish Wildcat.
